Chiang Mai – Karen Hill Tribe Village (-/L/D)

Itinerary

08h00    Head towards the North of Chiang Mai after breakfast by 4x4 WD.

08h30    Stop at the beautiful Orchid Nursery and Butterfly Farm on the way.

09h00    Continue driving to Mae Tang district for Mae Taman Elephant Camp; seeing the Elephant shows by bathing, responding to the commands of the mahouts, a demonstration of dragging and pushing logs. In Thailand’s history, the Elephants have been revered for many centuries. Famous as the strongest beasts of burden, they were also important in battle, with kings mounted on Elephants fighting the Burmese to defend Thailand on many occasions.

They have also been noted for their intelligence, memory and pleasant nature. A Thai legend has it that a marriage is like an Elephant-- the husband is the front legs, that choose the direction, the wife the back legs, providing the power. 

10h45    Experience an Elephant ride through the jungle for 30-40 minutes, then the Ox-Cart ride for 15 minutes back to the camp.

12h15    Lunch at the camp.

13h00    Exhilarate a Bamboo rafting along Mae Tang River for an hour seeing lush and green plantations of Lychee and Longan fruits.

14h00    Drive along wildly and bumpy road up to Karen Hill tribe village at Baan Mae Jok.  The majority of the Karen people live in Myanmar, and yet they also form by the largest of the major tribes of Northern Thailand.  There are as many as 280,000 Karen living in Thailand who can be found living both in the mountains and on the plains but also in Central Thailand. 

The Karen are very peaceful and cooperative, who likes the other tribes, reserves their highest veneration for their ancestors and living elders.

17h00    Arrive the village. Relax by seeing the simple life, unique customs and chitchat with the hill tribe people.

18h30    Dinner at the village (normally Thai food cooked by the guide).  Overnight at    the village (sleep in the Bamboo cottage & dormitory room).

Karen Hill Tribe Village - Mae Hong Sorn (B/L/D)

07h30   Breakfast at the village.

08h30   Leave from Karen village by 4x4 WD to Mae Hong Sorn.

11h30   Visit the biggest Cave in Mae Hong Sorn called “Tam Lord” or Tam Nam Lord, is a 400 m deep cave with a wide stream running through it, formed by a small stream running through a crack in the limestone surface. This cave is home to many wonderful stalactites & stalagmites. In addition, Tam Lord is also the site of numerous archaeological finds. Take a short Bamboo raft to see the ancient inside the cave.

12h30    Lunch at the local restaurant in front of the cave.

13h30   Transfer to Lahu hill tribe village, Baan Mae Lana. Then, continue to Fish Cave National Park (Tam Plaa in Thai).

The name is a bit misleading because there's no cave that you can really go into but there’s a small stream emerges from the rock face of a hill which’s surrounded the park. However, there are definitely fishes, Big brook carps of a kind found only in a very few places in Thailand. The fish grows up to a meter (three feet) long and appear deep blue in color. 

15h30    Drive to Mae Hong Sorn.

16h30    Arrive Mae Hong Sorn, Thailand’s northern border province, hiding itself in between the towering mountains with densely forested slopes, stretching to the Myammese border. Mae Hong Sorn is known for its charm of scenery and culture. The people of Mae Hong Sorn consists of the Shan who live in the city and the hill tribe people who live in the remote villages on mountain tops where elements of lifestyle have changed little in hundreds of years. Transfer to Fern Resort or similar hotel (Twin Deluxe).

18h30    Barbecue Dinner will be served at the resort

Mae Hong Sorn – Chiang Mai (B/L/-)

07h30    Breakfast at the resort.

08h30    Transfer to a village of Padong Long - Necked Tribe at Baan Nai Soi, the world’s, the world’s famous tribe who just immigrated to Thailand recently. The people are helpful, friendly and lovely. Women of this tribe wear brass rings on their necks and limbs. The numbers of the rings increase according to their ages. Their shoulders are pressed lower while their necks seem to be longer and longer.

11h00    Continue to visit the beautiful Myanmese style temples; Wat Jong Come, Wat Jong  Klang, Wat Hao Wieng and Wat Doi Kong Moo situated on a hill where birds’ eyes view of Mae Hong Sorn and the surrounding can be seen obviously. 

12h30    Lunch at the restaurant in Mae Hong Sorn.

13h00    Transfer to Mae Hong Sorn Airport for the afternoon flight back to Chiang Mai or a   connecting flight to Bangkok.
